In our Gospel today, we hear of the subtle but apparent transformation that occurs in the life of a simple Samaritan woman, whom Jesus encounters at Jacob’s well. This woman, moves from seeing Jesus first as a Jew, then as a prophet, and finally as noneother than the Messiah. And it all happened from a simple act of reaching out to the woman, recognizing her frailties and sins, and loving her without question. That’s really what Lent is all about. It’s about conversion of our hearts and seeing Jesus more and more fully as the one with whom we seek authentic relationship. It’s about emptying ourselves of our negativities and judgments and meeting people where they happen to be on their spiritual journey. It’s about placing all our hope in the One who alone can save us and can give us the water that gushes forth to provide eternal life. Are you ready for a simple, ordinary encounter with Christ this Lent? He may appear in the most unlikely or unusual places and events in your life. Are you ready to act like Christ in our Gospel toward the "Samaritan women" that Christ places in our life path? Some points to ponder as we continue our kenotic journey in Lent.
