Pastor’s Point to Ponder

The church knew what it was doing when it chose to read from the acts of the Apostles during Easter season.   It’s impossible not to catch some of that apostolic zeal of the early christian community. It’s impossible not to reflect on how we compare to that first eager enthusiasm, to that first conviction that Jesus is indeed the Lord and Saviour of all the Earth.   What did Paul and Barnabas do?  They strengthened the souls of the disciples and encouraged them in their faith: “It is through many persecutions that we must enter the kingdom of God.”    The early disciples didn’t flinch at suffering or making sacrifices for God.   They didn’t hesitate to know that such suffering and sacrifice had salvific value and they saw it as a constitutive part of the vocation of being a Christian.   Perhaps we too must reflect on how willing we are to suffer or be persecuted because we bear the name Christian.   A point to ponder this Easter season.
